We made the decision to spay and retire Avery after a bit of challenge with her reproductive health as she was turning five on September 4th. It wasn't a hard decision as her health was our primary concern.

We are pleased to announce that Avery is blessed to be able to spend the rest of her years with Kristen and Michael, their 3 lovely children and Ruby. Kristen and Michael sought to adopt Avery as a home companion for their 2-year-old cavalier king charles spaniel Ruby and their children.

Everyone can't be happier with Avery's new retirement arrangement!

Well Tori and Ruger are anticipating arrival of their litter of Cavalier puppies around 9/18/26 with an x-ray for puppy count on 9/9/26.

Sasha and Ruger are expecting arrival of their puppy or puppies by C-Section on 9/24/26 with an x-ray for puppy count on 9/17/26.

Shelbie and Brodie are awaiting the ultrasound for confirmation of pregnancy on 9/14/26 with a possible delivery date of 10/19/26.

Needless to say, things are a bit busy in the home as the girls are dealing with pregnancy feeding dislikes and we are setting up puppy rooms for the litters to arrive. We are geared up and ready, but it will take a bit of coordination as each of the moms go back and forth for different appointments with our veterinarians.

Technology, internet, and servers are always targets for a few unscrupulous individuals to see what damage they can do to other parties trying to do business. Previous blogs noted the variety of colors possible in cavalier king charles spaniels. Good breeders use DNA testing, genetics, bloodlines and pedigrees to have puppies produced that are healthy as humanly possible. They test and certify breeding males and females to ensure potential health issues for a cavalier king charles spaniel puppy are reduced or eliminated to the greatest extent possible. Some health issues like mitral valve disease are a known breed health issue that it may be possible to minimize but potential risk cannot be eliminated.

The same parameters of DNA, genetics, bloodlines and pedigrees are balanced as breeders select the breeding female (dam) and male (sire) to hopefully produce a healthy litter of cavalier puppies of a specific coloration they hope to achieve. This too is not perfect as a Blenheim dam bred to a Blenheim sire you would think should produce all Blenheim puppies, but that is not necessarily completely true. Odds predict that the litter should all be Blenheim but as genetics derive the sex of the puppy so does coloration. So, it may be that these two Blenheim parents have offspring (puppy) that is a totally different color than the parents.

Remember that each puppy is not just a product of the two parents having the litter but rather a product of generations of DNA, genetics, bloodlines and pedigrees. Parents, grandparents, great grandparents or others further back in the pedigree may have the less dominant gene prevail where another color of puppy other than Blenheim presents in a litter. It isn't a genetic flaw, but rather a product of natural selection in breeding cavaliers just like it is in humans.

This is where it is important to select a cavalier breeder that understands the breed and uses the best practices in producing puppies for clients. It needs to be personal for the breeder not just selling puppies and a business. They need to breed cavaliers exclusively, have a solid reputation along with the experience to ensure that puppy you purchase has everything going for it possible. Simply shop for a breeder, not just a puppy. Good luck with your search and waiting for the right puppy with the right breeder is not a bad thing!

We were excited to have select Willow to join our family May 2025 now one year a sweet, noisy girl with spunk. She as a beautiful tricolor cavalier that is AKC registered, DNA tested and vet cleared for all the cavalier health issues.

She is now the constant companion for Raven showing her the ropes as the run and play constantly. Raven, a gorgeous black and tan girl that was born in July 2025 joining us in September also AKC Registered, DNA tested clear, vet cleared and Willow's new sidekick from the very first days.

It will be a while for mating these two girls, but we are sure the puppies will be as stunning as their parents. Both girls were selected to pick up roles as family members and potential dams in our breeding program.

Victoria (Tori) and Ruger are proud parents of a litter of five with three blenheim and two tricolor cavalier puppies on 3/14/26.

One blenheim boy and all the rest girls, guess Tori had the most influence on litter mix by gender.

They soon will be three weeks old and we are proud to announce that all five already have been selected by special families to join them when they reach ten weeks old.

We're happy to share that Ruger (Blenheim) and Tori (tricolor) have successfully mated three times and are now eagerly awaiting an ultrasound confirmation of pregnancy in early February. This is always an exciting stage, full of anticipation as we watch and wait for signs of good news.

A proven pairing

Ruger and Tori's last pairing was a wonderful success, resulting in a beautiful litter of five Cavalier puppies in classic tricolor and Blenheim markings. Each puppy went on to join loving families near and far, making this pairing especially meaningful to us.

Looking ahead to spring

If pregnancy is confirmed, we're hopeful their next litter will arrive toward the end of March. Until then, we're keeping a close eye on Tori and making sure she's comfortable and well cared for as we move through these early weeks.

We're overjoyed to share the arrival of Merlot (ruby) and Brodie's (tricolor) beautiful litter, born on January 15, 2026. This little family's first hours were full of happy beginnings and a few heartbreaking moments — a true reminder of how delicate and miraculous birth can be.

A day of joy and tears

Merlot began delivering naturally and blessed us with three healthy puppies. When the next stage of delivery stalled, the situation became serious: one of the remaining puppies blocked delivery and an emergency cesarean (C-section) was performed to try to deliver the rest of the litter. The surgery was a difficult time — of the four puppies delivered during the C-section, three did not survive. It was an emotional rollercoaster for everyone involved.

Late on the evening of January 15, Merlot came home to rejoin her first three puppies — and to welcome the final surviving pup from the surgery. Today, Merlot and her puppies are doing fantastic.

Four cuddly Cavaliers are now at home and thriving. Their names, colors, and sexes are:

Ginny — ruby female

Luna — black & tan female

Lily — ruby female

Remus — ruby male

Looking ahead

We're grateful for Merlot's strength and the little family's resilience. While this litter's arrival brought both happiness and sorrow, the focus now is on warmth, rest, and steady recovery. Merlot is caring for her puppies, and they're settling in nicely.

We're pleased to share a heartfelt update about Abagail, our calm, affectionate girl who has been hand-selected to join a wonderful local family. This transition marks a meaningful new chapter for Abby, one filled with companionship, comfort, and purpose.

A well-earned retirement

Abagail has recently retired from our breeding program, and we couldn't have hoped for a better next step for her. She has moved nearby, allowing us to know she's close, settled, and surrounded by familiar care and love.

With her outgoing, gentle, and loving disposition, Abby is a natural fit for her new home. Her presence will bring comfort and joy to a family member who needs just a little extra attention — a role she seems born to fill.

Susan wanted chocolate for a long time just not the kind you eat. See there are more color varieties to the cavalier king charles spaniel breed than typically you see in commercials, magazines, shopping carts, park, street or your neighborhood.

Cavaliers have been listed in the top twenty breeds by publishers for more than 20 years yet most only know the cavaliers to be blenheim, ruby, black and tan, or tricolor (black and white with tan markings).

There are a few other colors for cavaliers that are not recognized as a breed standard with the American Kennel Club yet find them listed in less conspicuous places. These other colors of cavalier are sought out by individuals seeking the same loving, like velcro breed but with a non-standard color. You may see cavaliers that are black, black and white, tan, chocolate, chocolate and tan, tan, chocolate, merle and even white but not realize they really are cavalier king charles spaniels.

Susan will be making a trip to pick up Godiva as a new addition to our family around Memorial Day. Godiva as a beautiful pure chocolate cavalier that has finally been found by Susan after years of looking with Milt's resistance to adding a cavalier with a non-traditional color chocolate.

We both fell in love with this beautiful chocolate little girl, so everything is always up for negotiation. Godiva will be AKC registered, DNA tested clear for breed health issues and be evaluated and followed extensively for breed specific health issues here with us just like the rest of our babies.

I hope the traditionalist for the breed will understand the need for diversity, passion for uniqueness, and an individual's want for that all special puppy to love and nurture that just may not be main street cavalier.

All our dogs love their treats. It's okay to give them, but if you give them too many in a day they may not eat their balanced dog food. We use freeze-dried chicken, training treats, and even frozen blueberries. We find that an ice cube is often a special treat to them especially on a warm or hot day. Again stay away from grain free treats as it isn't recommended for cavaliers. We give our adult dogs treats like apple slices or carrots. A piece of cheese, popcorn, or a spoonful of yogurt all works too! Just remember you want them to eat their food, so be careful not to give too many treats. We feed our dogs before we eat and never provide them food from the table to avoid them becoming beggars while you are trying to eat. Absolutely stay away from grapes, raisens, chocolate and anything they maybe allergic to as it can harm your special companion. Can't think of a good treat for your cavalier? Just Google acceptable dog treats and you can find many sources of good treats and those things not to give your puppy or dog.

King Charles Cavaliers should NEVER be given grain free foods, unless recommended by your veterinarian due to allergy issues. Grain free goods have been linked to cardiac issues in cavaliers. We start our puppies on Purina Pro Plan Savory, Shredded Chicken and Rice. It is a very good dog food with our puppies and nine adult dogs doing very well on this food. It has probiotics added which is wonderful as it aids in digestion and immunity for the dogs.

We provide our new parents with a small bag with advice if switching foods, please do it slowly. Begin by giving 3/4 Purina and 1/4 the new food and increase the portion of new food decreasing the Purina proportions slowly over ten days. Switching foods too fast can cause upset stomachs and diarrhea. We feed puppies three times a day eventually transition to twice a day as they grow older. We recommend separate feedings 3/2 times a day rather than having it available all day long. This is vital to be able to monitor food intake especially when there is more than one dog in the home.

May not need to be said but feed the right animal the right food. Puppy food is for puppies up to one year old, adult dog food for those healthy adults over one year of age, and never feed cat food to a puppy or adult dog. Each animal food formula is specific for that type animal and feeding something else can actually be harmful to your trusted companion.

It is especially important to monitor puppies to make sure he/she is eating enough to grow and meet its nutritional needs. We put the food down giving them an hour to eat then take up the food until the next feeding. Remember fresh water should always be available to them and when finished eating is the perfect time to take him or her outside for potty time. Helps avoid accidents inside speeding up potty training!!

Our puppies and adult dogs most times are provided only dry food avoiding table foods as some may not be a good choice for a cavalier. When one isn't feeling well with vomiting and/or diarrhea, we will switch him/her temporarily to boiled or roasted chicken and white rice until feeling better. We then transition to mixing chicken, rice and dog food until going back completely to dog food.

Once you get your new puppy home and settled, about two weeks, begin brushing your King Charles Cavalier at least daily. I like to start by brushing them on my lap every night while watching TV together. Start SLOW and VERY GENTLE! Show them the brush and then brush down their back, then to ears, and so forth. I recommend a small slicker brush when they are puppies and once their fur starts getting long, switch to a medium sized brush, as it will cover more area. Daily brushing helps the dogs coat, as it helps to release the natural oils in their coat. Cavaliers do not need baths often, only about every 5-6 weeks as washing them too often can dry out their skin.

Please make sure that you brush your Cavalier prior to washing them in order to remove knots and/or tangles as the bath could make them worse. Purchase a good puppy shampoo that is tearless, I also use a conditioner on all my Cavaliers. Be sure the water used in the bath is warm, not hot nor cold. Once you have completed the bath, towel dry lightly, as you don't want to cause any tangles. Use a hair dryer on low heat setting gently brush to smooth out his/her coat. Getting use to dryer as puppy makes it easier as they grow into an adult dog.

As your Cavalier grows and begins with tangles and knots, use a metal comb with two different sizes of round teeth at opposite ends. Gently try to pull the tangle slightly to loosen the tangle/knot and then use the large teeth to begin removing the knot. Please do not pull hard on the knots as it could hurt your puppy. Also, if you see your dog has knots and you can not get them out, please go to a professional groomer to have them removed. You do not want the knot to get to the skin and follicles as it is painful for your Cavalier.

I suggest that once your puppy is six months old and has had all his/her shots, take them to their first grooming appointment. The puppy needs to get use to the environment and it will make it much easier for him/her. The first grooming appointment should be a quick one. They will do a bath, nails, teeth and then a haircut, depending on your wishes.

Grooming is a perfect time to bond with your new bundle of joy and energy. Giving him/her a favorite toy to play with while being groomed decreases the chance they see the comb/brush as a toy. First attempts maybe present challenges but keep working at it. Praise the good behaviors and redirect when not not so good.

Happy Grooming!!

King Charles Cavalier is a wonderful dog for companionship. They will be right by your side or on your lap. The love to snuggle up, some even give hugs, travel with you when you leave, play with you inside or outside, very easy to train, give you lots and lots of love, and an outstanding choice for children. Cavaliers are easy to care for generally. They want to please you, be with you, and learn very easily. I find that all my cavaliers learn with food treats and then phase to praise only. The do require regular grooming and will shed. It is important that you begin grooming process at least by their 6th month so they get use to the regimen whether done by you personally or by a groomer. They do shed, but not excessively, in my opinion.

They love to romp and play outside, chasing birds, squirrels and rabbits. They do bark, but easily trained to quiet down. If you like to garden, they will be right there by your side, helping with weeding. If the kids are outside playing, they will be there with them rolling or chasing balls, always wanting to be with the kids. These traits also lend this breed to be used as Emotional Support Companions for those with special needs or additional support.

If you are looking for a guard dog, then this is not the breed for you. Your cavalier may bark when there is a knock on the door or the doorbell rings, but that is typically to be the first there to welcome the new visitor!
